moving to YourWiki.Net.
The voters at Forum:Moving to YourWiki unanimously agreed to move from Wikia to YourWiki.Net. Those who didn't vote are assumed to be neutral, indifferent, or inactive. Nevertheless, if you didn't vote, changed your minds, or have some other concerns, please feel free to express your opinions in the discussion section below.
Due to the overwhelming support, we may now start preparing for the move. Your cooperation is essential to the move, so this discussion page was made to answer questions and to provide an area to make possible suggestions.
Name
Since a four-fifths majority decided that it was best to keep the old name, this wiki will remain Elder Scrolls Fanon. Our new URL address will be http://tesfanon.yourwiki.net/ (don't bother clicking that link, our wiki hasn't moved there yet).
Procedure
In order keep the events of the next few days from being a surprise to anyone, I've created a simple outline for us to follow. Note: I'm not experienced with moving wikis, so the following is subject to extreme changes.
- MediaWiki:Sitenotice will be updated so that everyone is aware of the upcoming move.
- A three-day wait until any further action is taken. This wait is here in order to ensure that questions and concerns are addressed and to ensure that there isn't anybody left in the dark about the planned move.
- After that three-day period, I'll request an updated database dump from Wikia.
- I'll then tell YourWiki staff that an updated database dump is prepare, and YourWiki staff will transfer the data to the new site.
- After the new wiki is created, we have to recreated our accounts under the same name. If you don't create your account under the same name, you will lose your account data, including your contributions and edit count.
- Bug testing, checking that all articles and images were uploaded onto the new wiki correctly, etc.
- MediaWiki:Sitenotice will be updated to notice any future visitors to the old Wikia-runned wiki that we've moved to YourWiki.
Date
The wiki is planning to move on Friday, July 10, 2009. If the move is somehow postponed, then the wiki will move on Monday, July 13, 2009. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 16:48, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
