The following was a discussion about whether Elder Scrolls Fanon should move to YourWiki.Net. The result of the discussion was: Yes, the wiki should move to YourWiki.Net.

Greetings, thanks for joining. Today's discussion will center around a discussion about a moving to a better web host (redundancy intended). This idea has been in my head for months now, but moving then would had severely harmed our chances of switching to a Creative Commons license, so I waited. Now that Wikia has make the switch for us, we can proceed with these plans without delay.

Where to?

Where would we go? And would the new host be better than Wikia? I believe that the answer to both of these questions is "Yes". After a searching for a while, I'd found the perfect place: www:YourWiki.Net. This Wiki Farm provides the same basic features as Wikia plus more. It currently uses MediaWiki 1.15.0, so its software is more up-to-date than Wikia. YourWiki doesn't have annoying in-text ads or the silly Monaco skin. YourWiki has the standard Monobook skin plus the new Vector skin. By moving, we can also expect new features such as Extension:Nuke, Extension:SpecialInterwiki, and much, much more. In addition, all these features are provided for free.

What needs to change?

Although the move would be overwhelmingly positive, a few things need to change. Since Wikia refuses to close abandoned wikis, this one would continue to run. However, I believe that the editors are the substance of the wiki, not a domain name. If the users move, the wiki moves.

In order to distinguish the old Wikia site from the new and improved YourWiki site, we needs to change the name of the wiki. I propose changing it to Jobasha's Rare Fanon. This name is inspired by Jobasha's Rare Books, the bookstore operated by the eccentric Khajiit Jobasha. I believe that this name would fit well for a wiki about fan-written literature. M'aiq's Tales (named after M'aiq) is another possible name that we may use.

Discussion

Who would be the wiki's system operators/administrators if we did move? --Darth Wylind ^(Talk)

All of the current administrators will keep their administrative / bureaucratic powers, except for Manticore. As seen here, Manticore has already agreed to step down in the event that we move to another wiki farm. Other than that, the administration of the wiki shall remain the same.

I've seen other wikis moved. When we moved, all of our account data (edit count, contributions, etc.) will remain, but the actual accounts themselves can't be transferred. As a result, we have to recreate our accounts. However, it is essential that we use the same user names as we have now. Otherwise, you will lose all your account data. Hi guys! My name is Glacier Wolf, and I am a helper with YourWiki. I have all the pages downloaded and ready to go. When you guys are ready, I'll contact a staffer with YourWiki, and we can get started. A couple things to keep in mind: Wikia will not delete this wiki. It's better to just abandon it. Hello There :), I am Mifter another Helper From YourWiki, as you are going to be abandoning this wiki and keeping the same name, I would recommenced that leave a notice here (In the Site Notice, Anon Notice, on the Main Page, or otherwise) telling new readers/contributors to head over to your new YourWiki Wiki, also if you want any changes/special features or changes to the User Rights Layout on your new wiki, feel free to ask myself, Glacier, or any other Helper or YourWiki Staff Member on yourwiki, best of luck with the move :). Also, Darth Wylind, in regards to your question, your wikis administration will remain the same, and the only other users who will have Admin/Bureaucrat access in addition to those you give the access to are the YourWiki Helpers and the YourWiki Staff. In addition, at YourWiki, we have an additional level of protection and user right above Bureaucrat and Admin Protection, and that is the Founder User Right (and the founder protection level) the founder usergroup can give and take most userrights in addition to being able to protect pages on a level above normal sysop protection (A full list of founder abilities can be found here. If their is anyone specific you want to have this new flag on your new wiki, please leave a note here or on YourWiki about which users you want to get the right, if we don't get any preference, we can just give the Founder Flag to all local bureaucrats ;). Perhaps it's best just to give Founder rights to all of our Bureaucrats. User:George Skywalker was the one who originally requested the creation of this wiki; User:Darth Storm created most of the articles here; and I created most of the Project, Template, and Category namespaces, and I made the most amount of edits to this wiki. --Michaeldsuarez ^{(Talk) (Deeds)} 16:50, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

I already posted the following at YourWiki, but I also decided to post it here as well. As discussed in the Possible to move section, we've been promised certain extensions and features. These include:

1. Semantic MediaWiki 1.4.2
2. Semantic Forms 1.7.3
3. Semantic Drilldown 0.5.8
4. DPLforum 3.2
5. Plus all of the extensions and features that basic wikis on YourWiki receive.

Before you create the wiki, please note that:

1. The desired URL address for the new wiki is http://tesfanon.yourwiki.net/.
2. The wiki's name should be Elder Scrolls Fanon.
3. The license of the wiki's content should be CC-BY-SA 3.0.
4. Founder rights should be given to User:Michaeldsuarez, User:Darth Storm, and User:George Skywalker.

One of our staffers, FunPika, decided to create the wiki but lock it until we can get a recent DB dump to expedite the transition. If you want to go ahead with the June 13 DB dump, we can, but I recommend waiting for the new DB dump so you guys don't have to recreate any articles from the Wikia site. :) Glacier Wolf 16:13, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
